Captain's Cottages on Lake Siltcoos came about in the spring of 2006. Steve was traveling through the northwest on vacation with his parents and stopped in Florence to spend a couple of days fishing. His long time friend, retired fire captain Terry Johnson invited Steve up to fish on Siltcoos Lake at his place in Fish Mill Resort. While driving into town one morning a small cottage went up for sale and Steve made an offer and bought it. What he was really buying was the lake, dunes, wildlife and especially the people of Westlake. He purchased the property in hopes of transforming the 1927 cottage into a comfortable place to retire after 30 years of service as a firefighter and captain with the Bakersfield City Fire Department. Before he could finish remodeling the cottage he bought the property next door with his parents so they could live and keep an eye on the remodeling process. Then sometime during his first few visits he met Bob Jackson who owned a house on the lake with a small marina and they became friends. Bob would share his life's stories with Steve and Steve then fell in love with the marina and the boats. When Bob decided to downsize and sell the house and marina he met with Steve and blind sided him with an offer he should have refused. And, that's when Steve decided to marry Captain's Cottages and Jackson's Marina with a plan to upgrade the house's as vacation homes so others will have the opportunity to see and enjoy the Pacific Northwest at it's finest.
